The winery's name, 'Calera,' is Spanish for 'lime kiln,' referencing the historic lime kiln on the property. In 1990, Jensen successfully petitioned for the creation of the Mt. Harlan American Viticultural Area (AVA), distinguishing the region's unique characteristics. In 2017, Calera was acquired by The Duckhorn Portfolio, ensuring the continuation of its legacy.
